Harold John Fleming (born April 30, 1887 in Downton , Wiltshire , † August 23, 1955 in Swindon ) was an English professional footballer and international who played for the clubs St. Marks and Swindon Town .
Club data
Fleming played in the position of a central striker and began his football career at St. Marks . He was later invited to a test match by the manager of the Swindon Town club . Fleming scored twice in Swindon Town's 4-0 win over Salisbury City FC .
Because of this good performance, he quickly received a professional contract with Swindon Town and played for the club between 1907 and 1924 . During his 332 games for Swindon Town, he marked 203 goals.
His career as a footballer was interrupted by the First World War. During the war he worked as a physical education teacher.
English national football team
Between 1909 and 1914 he played a total of 11 times for the English national team, scoring 9 goals.
Special
Because of his legendary reputation with Swindon fans, a street, the "Fleming Way", was named after him and a statue was placed in the foyer of the club. He also donated his name to a type of football boot.
