Harry Fechner (born May 4, 1950 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Fechner came from the youth of VfL Bochum - nine years he had joined the club - and then initially moved in the amateur squad, before he in the 1970/71 season his first 14 games for the first team in the then second-class Regionalliga West denied . This was followed by a successful promotion round - he was substituted on three times against VfL Osnabrück, FK Pirmasens and Tasmania 1900 Berlin - promotion to the Bundesliga . The young defensive player as well as the other self -grown Hans-Günter Etterich and Hans-Jürgen Köper experienced his beginnings in the senior division at VfL under coach Hermann Eppenhoff , before Heinz Höher succeeded the man from Schalke in the 1972/73 season. There he was a regular at VfL until 1974. The young Fechner made his debut on October 23, 1971 at a home game against 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga and subsequently impressed with good performances. The 2-1 home win against Hamburger SV on April 15, 1972, when the young Vorstopper won the duel against HSV legend Uwe Seeler and also kept the upper hand in the duels in the air , remained a special memory . The result were several offers from Bundesliga clubs, which he turned down because of his ties to VfL and the good camaraderie in the team. During this time Fechner was also invited to a DFB viewing course. For national coach Helmut Schön Fechner was a candidate for the national team for the period after the 1974 World Cup. In the spring of 1974, however, he suffered a back injury, because of which he could not be used once in the 1974/75 round. He played his last Bundesliga game for Bochum on April 27, 1974, when he lost 4-0 away at Bayern Munich. At the end of the season he was only loaned to 1. FC Saarbrücken and shortly afterwards to DJK Gütersloh , both second division clubs (but not playing in the same season (north / south)). There he was able to play again at first, but ended his career due to persistent problems.

After his football career, the trained banker returned to his old job.
