career

With the A-youth of VfL Bochum, the offensive talent won the first German junior championship in football on July 13, 1969 . Bochum beat 1. FC Saarbrücken with 5: 3 goals, Etterich contributed two goals to the title win. He contributed to the championship of VfL in the 1970/71 regional league season in five missions under coach Hermann Eppenhoff . He made his debut in the West Regional Football League when he was substituted on September 27, 1970 in the away game against Lüner SV. In the promotion round to the Bundesliga he was substituted on three times for Werner Balte in the games against Karlsruher SC, VfL Osnabrück and Tasmania 1900 Berlin . He belongs to the VfL promotion formation in 1971 in the Bundesliga. In the Bundesliga round 1971/72 he came for the first time on the fourth match day, September 1, 1971, in the away game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern for the course. At the side of Werner Balte, Dieter Fern , Hans-Werner Hartl , Werner Krämer and Hans Walitza , he completed 20 Bundesliga games and scored five goals. The VfL-Eigengewächs came back in 1973/74 in 21 Bundesliga games, scored three goals, but accepted the offer from Westfalia Herne from the Westphalian amateur camp for the 1974/75 round and played in the Association League Westphalia (group southwest) in the future.

With the blue-whites from the stadium at Schloss Strünkede , he immediately celebrated the relay championship in front of DSC Wanne-Eickel and Sportfreunde Siegen, won the Westphalia championship in two games against SV Arminia Gütersloh and also beat his rivals in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga Group North Spandauer SV and VfB Oldenburg superior with 7: 1 points. Etterich experienced the financial commitment of the mineral oil merchant Erhard Goldbach to the old Oberliga West Club from Herne, but also its collapse. He graduated from 1975 with players such as Jochen Abel , Søren Busk , Herbert Bals , Hugo Lütkebohmert , Klaus Scheer and Lutz Gerresheim , as well as his former Bochum colleagues Hans-Jürgen Bradler and Klaus-Peter Kerkemeier and the coaches Heinz Murach , Ivica Horvat and Gerhard Prokop 89 second division games for Westfalia by 1979 and scored six goals. When the financial crash occurred during the 1978/79 round and at the end of the round Herne withdrew from paid football as fifth in the table, he stopped his activity after the first eight first round matches. There followed an interlude overseas, he played for San Jose.

During the round 1979/80 he jumped on the "relegation train" with the "Bergische Löwen" from the stadium at the zoo , with Wuppertaler SV. In vain, the WSV last year with 30:46 points only happily remained 17th in the table in the 2nd division (Herne returned the license and St. Pauli was withdrawn), rose to 16:60 points as the bottom of the table Amateur camp. The man from Bochum scored a goal for the relegated team in 14 games. For the 1980/81 round he accepted an offer from the group south, he signed on Bornheimer Hang and played for FSV Frankfurt . For the team of coach Dietmar Schwager and at the side of the teammates Paul-Werner Hofmann (35 games - 17 goals) and Josef Sarocca , Etterich completed another 25 second division games and scored four goals. He came with the FSV in 15th place, but could not qualify for the 1981/82 round for the newly introduced single-track 2nd Bundesliga.

Now his way led him back to the west. In 1981/82 he joined TuS Schloß Neuhaus in the amateur league of Westphalia and celebrated the championship in front of FC Gütersloh. In the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga, second place in the north group behind BV Lüttringhausen was enough to achieve promotion. In 1982/83 he only played four games in the second division for the blue-yellows - Neuhaus came in on 20th place and was relegated - and ended his high-class playing career in the summer of 1983.
