career

VfL Bochum, until 1973

In the 1968/69 round, Kerkemeier, together with Hans-Jürgen Köper and Hans-Günter Etterich , formed the inside trio of the West German championship team at VfL Bochum in the A-youth . On July 13th, they crowned the successful round with a 5-3 win against 1. FC Saarbrücken and brought the first German Youth Championship to Bochum. In the promotion round of VfL in the Bundesliga , 1970/71, he came only to one use in the Football Regionalliga West . On April 18, 1971, he played alongside Werner Balte , Werner Krämer , Hans Walitza and his former A-youth colleague Köper in the 5-0 home win against Eintracht Gelsenkirchen. The talent from within the ranks was not used in the next two rounds in the Bundesliga. He therefore joined the 1973/74 Westfalia Herne round in the West Football Region League.

Herne and Erkenschwick, 1973 to 1981

In the last season of the old second-rate regional league system, 1973/74 , Kerkemeier made his debut on August 12, 1973 in the 0-1 away defeat of Herne at Schwarz-Weiß Essen in the Westfalia team. He completed 20 league games alongside teammates Jürgen Gelhaus , Bernhard Hartmann , Idriz Hosic , Heinz Kördell and Gerd Wiesemes and scored one goal. With 17th place, Herne did not qualify for the 2nd Bundesliga for the 1974/75 round, but the team from the stadium at Schloss Strünkede had to compete in the 1974/75 round in the Westphalia Association (group southwest). Kerkemeier and his team immediately celebrated the title win, after two games against SV Arminia Gütersloh the Westphalia Championship and in the promotion round against the competitors Spandauer SV and VfB Oldenburg promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. In his first season in the 2nd division, 1975/76, he completed 34 games for Herne and scored three goals. In the second year, 1976/77, he came on 16 more missions, but preferred to move again to the Westphalian amateur camp and from the 1977/78 season played for SpVgg Erkenschwick - located in the northern Ruhr area, former mining town bordering the Münsterland - in the association league.

The Red-Blacks from Stimbergstadion qualified with the runner-up in 1978 for the games for the German amateur championship (FV Biberach and ESV Ingolstadt) and for the newly installed amateur league of Westphalia from 1978/79 . In 1979, Kerkemeier and colleagues took third place in the AOL, won the championship in 1979/80 and moved up to the 2nd Bundesliga. The " after-work players" of the game association were able to conquer 22:62 points under coach Klaus Quinkert in 42 round games with a goal difference of 46:91 goals and were thus immediately relegated to 21st from the 2nd Bundesliga, Group North. Kerkemeier had played in 33 games and scored two goals alongside his teammates Uwe Eplinius , Franz-Josef Laufer , Hans-Werner Melis , Wolfgang Pache (the best goalscorer with eleven goals) and former Bundesliga professional Hans-Jürgen Wittkamp .

In the summer of 1981 Kerkemeier ended his higher-class career.
