Harry Ferdinand Olson

Harry Ferdinand Olson (born December 28, 1901 in Mount Pleasant , Iowa , † April 1, 1982 ) invented the synthesizer in 1955 together with Herbert Belar .

Life

He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1924, his master 's degree in 1925 and his doctorate in 1928. In 1928 he went to RCA and developed the unidirectional microphone. During the Second World War he developed underwater microphones. In the late 1940s he developed the standards for hi-fi . In 1952 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society , and in 1959 a member of the National Academy of Sciences .

In 1962 he presented a speech processing system for speech recognition and speech synthesis .
