Harry Fry

Harry Brittain Fry (born September 13, 1905 in Dundas , Ontario ; † 1985 ibid) was a Canadian rower who won an Olympic bronze medal in eighth place in 1932 .

Athletic career

Harry Fry of the Hamilton Leander Boat Club won a bronze medal with the Canadian eighth in 1930 at the British Empire Games , which were held in Hamilton . Two years later he represented his country with the eighth of the Hamilton Leander Boat Club at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . Earl Eastwood , Joseph Harris , Stanley Stanyar , Harry Fry, Cedric Liddell , William Thoburn , Donald Boal , Albert Taylor and helmsman George MacDonaldtook second place behind the boat from the United States in the run-up and won their reunion ahead of the New Zealanders. In the final, the eighth from the United States won 0.2 seconds ahead of the Italians. The Canadians won the bronze medal 2.6 seconds behind the Italians and 0.4 seconds ahead of the British.

Four years later, the eighth from Hamilton again qualified for participation in the Olympic Games. At the Olympic Regatta in Berlin, however, the Canadians were eliminated in the interim behind the British. Harry Fry later became President of the Hamilton Leander Boat Club.
