Pavlina R. Tcherneva (* 1974 in Bulgaria ) is an American economist with Bulgarian roots.

Career

Tcherneva studied economics and mathematics at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania with a BA in both subjects in 1997. She received her master's degree from the University of Missouri , Kansas City in 2004. By 2008, she received a PhD in economics and social sciences .

Tcherneva has taught at Franklin and Marshall College and the University of Kansas City . From 2000 to 2006 she was deputy director for economic analyzes at the “Center for Full Employment and Price Stability ”, where she continues to work as a senior research assistant. In the summer of 2004 she was a visiting scholar at Cambridge University in Great Britain and since July 2007 a research fellow at the Levy Economics Institute. Tcherneva's work deals with macroeconomics in particular fiscal policy with a focus on full employment . She represents the Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) a flow of post-Keynesianism and the demand for a job guarantee. In the Democratic primary election for the 2016 presidential election, she was on Bernie Sanders' economic advisory team .
