Harry Puddicombe
Henry "Harry" Puddicombe (born June 14, 1870 in London , Ontario , † June 7, 1953 in Ottawa ) was a Canadian music teacher and composer .
Puddicombe went to Leipzig at the age of 21 to study piano with Martin Krause . Since his wish to become a concert pianist was not fulfilled, he returned to Canada and founded the Canadian Conservatory of Music in Ottawa in 1902 . There, among other things, taught Annie Jenkins , Herbert Sanders and his brother Donald Heins . He headed the conservatory until it closed in 1937 and then continued to give private lessons. His students included Yvon Barette , Gladys Barnes , Gladys Ewart , Hélène Landry , Olive Munro , Ethel Thompson , Beulah Duffy and Elise Tye . As a composer he emerged with works such as the Poème tragique for piano.
