Ryan Dean Shazier (* 6. September 1992 in Lauderdale Lakes , Florida ) is an American American football poker players in the National Football League (NFL). He plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers as a linebacker .

college

Shazier attended Ohio State University and successfully played college football for their team, the Buckeyes . In total, he was able to set 317 tackles and defend four passes. He also got 15 sacks and a touchdown .

NFL

Shazier was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 15th player in the 2014 NFL Draft in the first round . In his rookie season he ran in nine games, five times as a starter , where he had to pause repeatedly due to injuries. In the next two seasons he developed into a key player in the Steelers defense , but the injury bad luck remained loyal to him. Although he missed three games in 2016, he was appointed to the Pro Bowl for the first time due to his consistently good performance .

In April 2017, the Steelers exercised their contract option and extended Shazier's contract for another year. In the game against the Cincinnati Bengals , Shazier suffered paralysis below the hip after an unsuccessful tackling, had an operation and will not be available to the Steelers for an indefinite period.
