Harry Wood (athlete)

Harry Wood (actually Harold Wood; born November 28, 1902 in Wigan , † June 27, 1975 there ) was a British marathon runner .

In 1926 he won the Sporting Chronicle Marathon in Manchester in 2:43:52 h. In 1928 he won again in this race in 2:39:30 h and was then nominated for the Olympic Games in Amsterdam , where he finished eleventh in 2:41:15 h.

Between 1929 and 1931 he won six marathons in England. In 1932 he won the Manchester Marathon, renamed the Daily Dispatch Cup Marathon , for the fourth time with his personal best of 2:36:12 h. In 1934, after another victory in Manchester for England , he finished fourth at the British Empire Games in London .

In 1936 the sixth victory in Manchester was followed by a fifth place in the English championship. In 1938 he won the Blackpool Marathon for the fourth time .
