Hartbert was Bishop of Brandenburg from 1102 to 1122/1123 .

Life

Hartbert was ordained bishop by Magdeburg's Archbishop Hartwig . In 1107 he appeared as auxiliary bishop in the Mainz diocese. There he consecrated a church in Medenbach in the Taunus. In 1108 he called together with the bishops of the Magdeburg church province and the secular lords of East Saxony to a common crusade against the Wende . Soon afterwards he personally undertook the first missionary attempt and had a wooden church built in Leitzkau . As auxiliary bishop he was active again in Central Germany in 1112, where he consecrated an oratorio in the Herrenbreitungen monastery on September 8th . The bishop then continued the missionary work he had begun in his diocese and had the stone church in Leitzkau built around 1113 to 1114 . In June 1119 he attended the funeral of Archbishop Adelgoz . In February 1122 he appeared at the imperial court of Heinrich V in Würzburg. The date and place of his death are unknown.
