The Hartland Bridge (German: Hartland Bridge ) over the Saint John River in Hartland in Canada's New Brunswick is 390.75 meters in length, the longest covered bridge in the world.
The bridge, completed in 1901, was acquired by the local government in 1906. Originally the bridge was not covered. It was not until 1920 when two bridge elements collapsed due to the icing of the river that the bridge was reopened in 1922 after being repaired. Despite local resistance, this work was used to redesign the bridge as a covered bridge.
In 1945 a pedestrian path was added to the side of the bridge. In 1980 the bridge was added to the list of national historical objects. In 1982 the bridge had to be closed again when a vehicle got stuck on a beam on the bridge. On February 10, 1983, the bridge was opened to traffic again.
