Hartmann von Katzenbiß († before March 23, 1347 ) was in 1335 as Hartmann II. Abbot of the Schlüchtern monastery for a short time . He is the first abbot of the monastery whose family name is known.

Political framework

After the double election of bishops in Würzburg in 1333, the Schlüchtern monastery decided in favor of Hermann II. Hummel von Lichtenberg and against Otto II. Von Wolfskeel . Hermann II represented the imperial party , Otto II the papal party. The Pope then excommunicated the monastery.

choice

In this situation, a new abbot had to be elected in 1335 after the previous abbot, Hartmann I, had died. The abbot of the Schlüchtern monastery was elected by its convent . The choice fell on Hartmann II.

Political change

Bishop Hermann II died in the same year, 1335. The Schlüchtern monastery and its abbot were now in a difficult situation compared to the remaining bishop, Otto II von Wolfskeel. He did not recognize Hartmann II as abbot. Hartmann II resigned his office at the beginning of 1336. When the Pope lifted the excommunication on January 10, 1336, the monastery was run by a prior . Hartmann (II.) Stayed as a conventual in Schlüchtern monastery, where he died before March 23, 1347. His seal is known.
