Athletic career

Until 1972, Hartmut Sperlich played football with the agricultural company sports community (BSG) Traktor in Putlitz , most recently in the fourth-class district class Potsdam . From the 1972/73 season he was a member of the police sports club SG Dynamo Schwerin. In his first two seasons, Sperlich was not part of the player base and only made ten or nine league appearances. In these games he was usually used in defense. His breakthrough came in the 1974/75 season, when he played all 22 league games and helped SG Dynamo to win the season. In the subsequent league promotion round, Sperlich was also used in all eight games, but as fourth out of five applicants, the Schwerin missed promotion. In the following two seasons, Sperlich was not fully operational. In 1975/76 he scored his only goal in the GDR league, but only played there in 13 first half matches. In 1976/77 he was called up in only five league games between the 13th and 17th matchday. Two seasons followed, in which Sperlich belonged again to the permanent staff, only in 1978/79 he missed a point game. This season he was used by coach Löhle contrary to the previous practice in four league games in attack. In 1979/80, Sperlich's career came to an end, only towards the end of the first half of the season he was used in six games in the GDR league.

For the 1980/81 season, Sperlich was still registered for the GDR league squad, but was no longer used in the league. The end of his career was officially announced a year later. In his eight GDR league seasons, in which he played exclusively for Dynamo Schwerin, he was usually used as a defender in 108 league games and played in eight league promotion games. He later worked as a trainer for the 2nd team.
