Hartmut Tautz (born February 10, 1968 in Plauen ; † August 9, 1986 in Bratislava ) was a fatality on the Czechoslovak-Austrian border.

Life

Hartmut Tautz, who lives in Magdeburg, was the son of a dentist and wanted to study music, which he was denied because of his father's bourgeois background. Therefore, after graduating from high school, he decided to flee to the Federal Republic, for which he chose the route across the Czechoslovak-Austrian border. On the evening of August 8, 1986, he tried to cross the border in Petržalka . Border guards discovered him and let their dogs loose on Tautz, who suffered severe bite wounds on his head and legs. It was only after a long time that he was taken to the Bratislava Military Hospital, where he died on August 9 at 1:15 a.m.

In August 2016, a memorial to him was unveiled at the site of his failed escape.

In March 2017, Hartmut Tautz was rehabilitated by the Bratislava District Court. With the judgment, the family can sue for compensation.
