The Hartz Mountains are a mountain range in the south of the Australian state of Tasmania . The twin mountains are located about 55 km southwest of Hobart and about 17 km southwest of Geeveston in the national park of the same name .
Weather
Typical south-west weather prevails in the region. Snowfall, heavy rainfall, extreme temperatures, strong winds and sudden changes in weather can be expected at all times of the year.
Hartz Peak
Hartz Peak is the highest point in the Hartz Mountains at 1,253 m. From the summit you have a good view in good weather, especially to the southwest and north. Ascent and descent take about 5 hours and are only recommended for trained and experienced hikers.
