The Pelion Range is a mountain range in the center of the Australian state of Tasmania . It is in the center of the Cradle Mountain Lake St. Clair National Park .
Naming
The mountain was named after the Pelion (ger .: Pelion ) in Greece named.
Details
The Overland Track crosses the mountains in the Pelion Gap . Many peaks of Tasmania's highest mountains can be reached from here, e.g. B. Mount Ossa , Tasmania's highest mountain, Mount Pelion East at No. 16 on the altitude ranking and Mount Pelion West at No. 3 on the altitude ranking.
The mountains are mainly made up of diabase , which arose in the Jurassic period .
