Haruki Nammei
Haruki Nammei ( Japanese 春 木 南 溟 ; born 1795 in Edo ; died December 11, 1878 ) was a Japanese painter from the Nanga School from the late Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period .
life and work
Haruki Nammei was the son of the painter Haruki Nanko (春 木 南湖; 1759–1839). He studied painting under his father, but also under Tani Buncho . His style is his own mixture of the strict “northern style” (北 画, Hokuga) and the relaxed “southern style” (南 画, Nanga) of China, whereby he also incorporated elements of European painting.
He was a talented painter of landscapes and flowers, often done in great detail. Many daimyo admired him, in particular Prince Yamanouchi Yōdō , who resided in Kōchi (山 山 堂; 1827–1872). The painter Haruki Nanka (春 木 南華; 1818–1866) was his son, Tazaki Sōun (1815–1898) one of his students.
