Harvey Leonard

Harvey Leonard (born December 31, 1924 in New York City ) is a former jazz pianist of swing and modern jazz .

Leonard studied at the Juilliard School of Music and first played with Georgie Auld from 1945 to 1947 , accompanied Sarah Vaughan and Illinois Jacquet , worked with Buddy Rich from 1947 to 1948 , then with Jerry Wald and from 1949 to 1950 with Buddy DeFranco . In the early 1950s he worked again with Auld, in the Big Band of Gene Krupa , with Charlie Barnet , in the quintet of Chuck Wayne and from 1953 to 1954 with Slim Gaillard . In 1954 Leonard took part in a record session with Al Cohn , which resulted in the album Broadway . Since 1956 he has worked as arranger and accompanist for the singer Morgana King .
