Harvey Murray Glatman (born December 10, 1927 in New York City , † September 18, 1959 in San Quentin ) aka "The Lonely Hearts Killer" was an American serial killer who was sentenced to death for the killing of three women and executed has been.

Life

Harvey Glatman was the son of Ophelia Gold and Albert Glatman. He was born in the Bronx , New York , and grew up in Denver . As a teenager, he spent nearly ten years in prison for kidnapping and sexual abuse, as well as multiple break-ins and thefts . In 1957 he moved to Los Angeles and began looking for women via newspaper ads, whom he could then rape and kill. He pretended to be a professional nude magazine photographer looking for talented beginner models that he wanted to pay well.

On August 1, 1957, Glatman met 19-year-old Judy Arm Dull in his apartment, took two photos of her before he raped her twice at gunpoint. Then he tied and gagged her, photographed her several times and drove her to a desert area north of Indio , where he strangled and buried her. On March 8, 1958, he met 24-year-old Shirley Bridgeford and drove her to a desert area near San Diego , where he tied her up, took photos and strangled her after she had been raped several times. He only barely covered the corpse with undergrowth. On July 23, 1958, he arranged to meet 23-year-old Ruth Mercado in his apartment, where he tied her up and raped her several times. Then he drove with her back to the desert area near San Diego, where he stayed with her until the next day and assaulted her several times before he killed her that evening. On October 27, 1958, he picked up the 27-year-old Lorraine Vigil, drove her to a deserted street near Santa Ana and tried to tie her at gunpoint. But Vigil defended himself. Glatman then shot her in the thigh, but then lost the gun. Vigil jumped out of the car. A patrolman who happened to be passing by saw the injured woman and arrested Glatman.
