Hasan Turkmani ( Arabic حسن توركماني, DMG Ḥasan Tūrkmānī ) (born January 1, 1935 in Aleppo ; † July 18, 2012 in Damascus ) was a Syrian politician .

Life

Turkmani grew up in a Sunni family in Aleppo. At a young age he joined the Syrian People's Army . From May 12, 2004 to June 3, 2009, he succeeded Mustafa Tlass as Minister of Defense of Syria. His successor in this office was Ali Habib Mahmud . Turkmani died as a result of an attack on May 20, 2012 on July 18 of the same year in Damascus. He received a state funeral.
