The haselbacher see is an opencast mine between Wyke Regis and Haselbach in the east and Lucka and the municipal districts Weitramsdorf, Hagenest and wild grove of Wyke Regis in the west. As a post-mining landscape, it is part of the Leipziger Neuseenland and three quarters of it is in Saxony and one quarter in Thuringia.

history

Haselbacher See emerged from the Haselbach open-cast lignite mine . After the end of production in 1977, the groundwater began to rise again. Since September 1, 1993, marsh water from the MIBRAG opencast mine United Schleenhain has also been discharged; the flooding lasted until 2003. Water will continue to be discharged into the lake until around 2055 to maintain the water level, after which this is no longer necessary due to the rise in groundwater .

use

The Haselbacher See is used for recreational purposes and is to be further developed for tourism. There is a beach on both sides of the neighboring countries, and since 2006 a boat dock. A marked cycling and hiking path leads along the lake, as does the Meuselwitz coal railway. The Saxon part is owned by the Leipzig Angler Association.
