Hasm movement

The Hasm Movement ( Arabic حركة حسم, DMG ḥarakat Ḥasm ) is an Islamist militant group operating in Egypt . Hasm is an acronym for Harakat Sawāʿid Misr ( Arabic حركة سواعد مصر, DMG ḥarakat sawāʿid Miṣr  'Movement of the Arms of Egypt'). The movement's motto is: "With our arms we protect our revolution" ( Bi-sāwaʿidi-nā naḥmī ṯaurata-nā ).

On August 5, 2016, the Hasm movement took responsibility for an assassination attempt on the former Grand Mufti of Egypt , Ali Jumaa .

On September 29, 2016, the Hasm movement attempted to kill Zakaria Abdel Aziz , a senior assistant to the Egyptian Supreme Prosecutor, with an explosive device when he was returning home from his office in eastern Cairo . Aziz and his entourage were unharmed, although a passerby was injured and taken to the hospital.

On November 4, 2016, the Hasm movement took responsibility for an assassination attempt on judge Ahmed Aboul Fotouh in Nasr City . Judge Fotouh was one of three judges who sentenced former Islamist President Mohammed Morsi to 20 years in prison in 2015.

On December 9, 2016, the Hasm movement claimed an attack on a checkpoint on a main road near the Giza Pyramids on the outskirts of Cairo, killing six police officers.
