Vinicio Capossela (born December 14, 1965 in Hanover ) is an Italian cantautore , multi-instrumentalist and writer .

Career

Capossela comes from Irpinia , although she was born in Germany, but spent his childhood in the province of Reggio Emilia . He first attended the conservatory , but soon gave up classical music training. After a number of odd jobs , some abroad, he made his debut as a musician in 1990 with the album All'una e trentacinque circa . This was awarded the Targa Tenco as the best debut of the year. In 1991 the album Modì, dedicated to Amedeo Modigliani , followed . After appearing in the satirical program Su la testa! by Paolo Rossi on Rai 3 , Capossela von Rossi was also engaged for the play Pop e Rebelot , which toured Italy in 1993. In that year the musician was also heard on the tribute album Il volo di Volodja (for Vladimir Vysotsky ).

The third album Camera a sud was released in 1994 and also contained songs from Pop e Rebelot . After extensive concert activities, Capossela released the album Ballo di San Vito in 1996 , in collaboration with Evan Lurie and Marc Ribot . From the following tour in 1997 the DVD and the live album Liveinvolvo emerged. The musician continued to work with Paolo Rossi and was involved in the television program Scatafascio between 1997 and 1998 . In 2000 he appeared with Jimmy Scott and the album Canzoni a manovella was released , which was able to reach the top 10 of the charts for the first time and was awarded the Targa Tenco as the best album of the year. After concerts and various other appearances, Capossela published his first Best of L'indispensabile in 2003 .

With Non si muore tutte le mattine , the musician's first novel was published in 2004. He increasingly combined musical, dramatic and literary elements in his performances. A new studio album was only released in 2006: Ovunque proteggi was Capossela's first number one album and was again created in collaboration with well-known musicians, such as Marc Ribot and Roy Paci . It also received the Targa Tenco album of the year again. The following tour was reflected in the live album Nel niente sotto il sole . This was followed by Da solo (2008) and the next live album Solo Show Alive (2009). In 2009 the book In clandestinità was published in collaboration with Vincenzo Costantino . In 2010 Capossela released the compilation The Story-Faced Man especially for the English-speaking market .

After an EP and album Marinai, Profeti e balene (2011; Targa Tenco for best album) took Capossela 2012 in Greece with local musicians the next album Rebetiko gimnastas on which four new and eight previously known songs in Rembetiko style contained. Together with Andrea Segre he also made the documentary Indebito about crisis-ridden Greece and Rembetiko. As a writer, Capossela published Tefteri in 2013 and Il paese dei Coppoloni in 2015 , which was nominated for the Premio Strega . The documentary of the same name and the album Le canzoni della cupa , which partly formed the film's soundtrack, were released the following year; the album was able to reach the top of the chart again.
