Irpinia

The Irpinia , also called Irpinien in German, is a hilly and mountainous landscape in the Italian region of Campania . It extends east of the city of Avellino in the province of the same name . The Irpinia was particularly hard hit by the earthquake of November 23, 1980 .

Numerous place names in the region have the addition Irpino or Irpina to indicate the location of the place. Examples for this are:

The main municipalities of Irpinia are Avellino , Ariano Irpino , Mercogliano , Grottaminarda , Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi and Solofra .
