Hassel Island (also: Hassell Island ) is a small inhabited island south of Saint Thomas Island in Charlotte Amalie Bay in the Caribbean . Politically, it has belonged to the American Virgin Islands since 1976 . The area is 0.55 km².

The island was created in 1860 by dredging the land connection to Saint Thomas.

95% of the area has been part of the Virgin Islands National Park since 1978 .

On July 19, 1976, the island was added to the National Register of Historic Places .
