Hatcha
Terry Leonard , also known as DJ Hatcha or Hatcha , is a producer and DJ of dubstep . He had a regular broadcast on the well-known pirate station Rinse FM in the early 2000s before bringing dubstep to a wider audience with his regular broadcast on the radio station 'Kiss FM'. He got a lot of recognition for his records from the Tempa Records DJ mix series "Dubstep Allstars".
Its role in the creation of dubstep
Leonard was the chief buyer at the Big Apple record store in Croydon, South London , which he ran with Arthur Smith (aka Artwork of Magnetic Man ) and John Kennedy. A movement within the Two Step scene called "Dark Garage" began to spread in the early 2000s, and producers of that scene such as El-B and Horsepower Productions were regulars at the store that had become a hangout for the scene. At the time, Leonard was an influential DJ on various pirate channels and often at the FWD >> club , where a penchant for minimalist and bass-heavy dark garage was gaining popularity.
Oliver Jones ( Skream ) came into contact with Leonard through his brother (producer Hijak) and started working in his shop during the weekends. Leonard played him Dark Garage Sounds, which sparked Jones' interest in music production. While working in the store, he met Adegbenga Adejumo ( Benga ), another young producer who created his pieces using his PlayStation game console . The two exchanged their music and developed their style under the mentorship of Leonard, who had also started dubplates of the pieces Jones and Adejumo made for his DJ sets. His sets in FWD >> and on Rinse FM were very influential in shaping dubstep, partly due to the exclusive music he got from the young producers, as well as regular store stocks such as Mala, Coki and Loefah (the first two were previously as Duo Digital Mystikz known).
