Lists on the subject

The Hatf Babur is the first cruise missile made in Pakistan . It is developed and produced by the state-owned Pakistan arms company NESCOM ( N ational E ngineering and S cientific Com mission ). It is named after the founder of the Mughal Empire , Babur .

In 1998, US warships fired six Tomahawk cruise missiles at Taliban bases in Afghanistan , but they missed their target and hit Pakistan. It is believed that these duds were analyzed and used to create the prototype of the Babur. This would also explain the visual similarity between the Babur and the Tomahawk.

Data

The Babur, an in-house development of Pakistan, can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear explosive devices and has a range of 700 to 1300 km, depending on the weight of the warhead. It can be launched from warships , submarines , fighter planes or land-based launchers and reaches a speed of 880 km / h. It also has a certain stealth ability and is therefore difficult to localize by radar systems . The Babur has a complex and accurate navigation system that enables it to fly through very dense terrain. The missile is powered by a jet engine and a booster . It is seven meters long and weighs 1440 kg. Series production of the Babur began in October 2005, it is subordinate to the National Defense Complex of Pakistan (National Ministry of Defense of Pakistan).

testing

The first test was successfully carried out on August 12, 2005, and further tests followed in the course of the year. The cruise missile can be fired by the JF-17 , F-16 and the A-5C of the Pakistani Air Force , it has already been successfully tested on these models. Work is currently underway to make the Babur compatible with the Air Force's J-10 and Navy submarines . The then president and former army chief Pervez Musharraf praised the designers for mastering a complicated technology. He went on to say that Pakistan has no intention of using the weapon against other countries, but is ready to defend itself.
