The manga was published from October 2007 to May 2008 in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump and adapted by JCStaff in 2009 as an anime television series. In terms of content, the manga deals with the peculiarities of the love life of eight schoolgirls who attend middle and high school.

action

The manga consists of a series of short stories that deal with eight befriended schoolgirls and their environment. Each of the chapters goes into more detail on one of the different main characters. Nevertheless, the individual stories can be put together to form a coherent story.

Characters

Middle school students

In the case of middle school students, several groups that are close friends initially develop. The five girls Ayumi, Kei, Koyoi, Rika and Nao are very close friends and spend a lot of time together both at school and in their free time.

Ayumi Arihara ( 有 原 あ ゆ み , Arihara Ayumi )
She attends middle school in the second year and is the focus of the first chapter. After she has not yet received a declaration of love from any student, she suddenly receives a letter from Misao Saitsu. Although she does not immediately turn down the offer, she feels threatened by Misao's monstrous appearance. When she turns out to be very strong, the two get closer. Nevertheless, after a seizure at school, she also meets Misao's younger brother Mamoru, with whom she falls in love on the spot. Now she is confronted with the situation of having to choose between the two brothers.
Kei Enomoto ( 江 ノ 本 慧 , Enomoto Kei )
She is one of Ayumi's friends attending the same class. Due to her very adult appearance, she is very popular with boys. For them, however, the attention they receive is just a burden because of the one-sidedness of the feelings. She openly admits that for her, a boy's looks are the number one factor in a relationship. At the same time she has a love / hate relationship (more hate than love) with Etsu Kusuda. But when he confesses his feelings to her, she has to reciprocate hers too.
Koyoi Bessho ( 別 所 小 宵 , Bessho Koyoi )
Koyoi has a strong affection for her brother Yoshihiko, whom she sees as her future love. Therefore, she always makes every effort to pamper him. She tends to overdo it with her niceties and cannot accept that her brother might be interested in girls other than her. She reacts extremely jealously as soon as any other girl approaches her brother and expresses a potential affection.
Rika Dobashi ( 土橋 り か , Dobashi Rika )
Rika is a very sporty and masculine-looking student who can be described as a tomboy who doesn't seem to have any obvious weaknesses. Due to her dominant nature, she often gets in her way in relationships with other boys who don't even try to build a relationship with her. An exception for her is Haruto, whose commitment she admires even though he has little physical chance against competitors.
Nao Chikura ( 千 倉 名 央 , Chikura Nao )
She is a very calm and level-headed girl who is interested in art. In addition to being slightly shy, she is also easily frightened and avoids most problems if possible.
