The Hattenberg tunnel is a 444 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line from Hanover to Würzburg . It is located west of the Hessian market town of Niederaula .

The double-track tunnel has been used as planned at speeds of up to 250 km / h since 1991.

course

The gradient slopes down to the south. The Aula valley bridge follows the tunnel to the north and the Hattenberg valley bridge to the south .

history

planning

At the end of 1984 the structure was planned to be 410 m long. The calculated costs were DM 13.0 million. The construction was to take place between March 1986 and May 1987.

The tunnel was part of planning section 15 in the middle section of the new line.

construction

The tunnel was on August 8, 1986 as Irmgard tunnel struck .

In the area of the north portal, a large bored pile wall anchored on both sides was necessary as a measure to improve the stability of the existing slope due to insufficient shear strength . From the north portal of the tunnel up to 60 m south of the portal, the wall should prevent side pressure from the tunnel structure. This wall also served to secure the portal excavation pit, which was up to around 25 m deep. A control corridor was laid between the southernmost pillar of the adjacent Hattenberg viaduct and the north portal of the tunnel.
