Bonnet bra
A hood bra is a mostly black synthetic leather film that is stretched over the front part of a car hood to protect it from damage caused by stone chips . Other names are stone chip protection mask or car mask; english front-end bra .
history
The inventor of the hood bra is considered to be Bill Colgan, who made the first samples for his customers' sports cars in California in the early 1960s .
variants
There are different versions that not only cover the front part of the bonnet but the entire front of a car. Instead of artificial leather , carbon foils or radar- absorbing materials are used in some hood braziers.
distribution
The distribution of Haubenbras in Central Europe is comparatively low. They are most likely still used in the sports car and auto tuning scene. Haubenbras is a little more common in Eastern Europe .
Advantages and disadvantages
Because of their generally low design, sports cars are particularly prone to damage to the front from small stones and grit . Such damage is not only a blemish , it also leads to a reduction in value and can cause rust damage in the long term . A suitable protective film can prevent such damage. Various sources have reported that hood braziers have also caused paint damage, especially in connection with moisture and friction on the paint surface.
