05:55

This song pays homage to the album of the same name by Charlotte Gainsbourg .

Fish sink

Fish sinks appeared as a single before the album and was made up as an advent calendar.

In terms of content, it is about a person who ponders instead of facing the problem.

Haubi songs

The eponymous song is about unfinished works and is thus in the tradition of earlier Züri-West songs such as "nüt als nacht" ( Hoover Jam ).

Johnny & Mary

Text and music were written by Robert Palmer and adapted by Kuno Launer.

Ship in the sand

The idea and the first text version of “Ship in the Sand” came from Jürg Halter. The final version was then created in collaboration with Kuno Launer.

26 Schtung or two

According to the songwriter Kuno Launer, the song is about a mental journey through the night. The first line and the chorus are from Kenny Rogers ' song "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)", which appears in the film The Big Lebowski , while the entire song is a collage of several works (including Schlangeladergurt by Polo Hofer ).

It leaf in the wind

As on every Züri West album, there is also a covered song with "Es Blatt im Wind". This time it was “Es Blatt im Wind” by Polo Hofer and Rumpelstilz from the album “Füüf Narre im Charre”.

This song was originally on a tribute album for Polo Hofer.

Shit okay

This song is about hospitality and goes against prejudice. The song is the last song on this album in terms of both tracklist and style.

This song is referred to several times by the image of a spider - large in the booklet, small on the back cover and as an initial animation on the band's website.

Chinasky

Chinasky is the hidden track on this CD. The lyrics are lighter and more hopeful than the rest of the album and are therefore staggered. As usual with hiddentracks, the text is not found in the booklet.

There are two other versions of the song on the newer album HomeRekords .

Relation to previous album

Aloha from Züri West was rather airy, relaxed and also had topics like space travel while Haubi Songs is more maritime, melancholy and melancholy.

Presentation

cover photo

The cover picture shows two wrestlers fighting.

The picture can be interpreted in many ways, for example as the struggle for the finished version, but also if you add the title as "haubi songs vo whole guys" (half songs by whole guys).

Design of the CD

In contrast to the black and white cover is the CD, which shows the photo of an exotic fish in an underwater environment.

Booklet

The booklet contains black and white sketches illustrating the title and setting the plot in Bern. At “05:55”, for example, a bus on bus line 12 to Wankdorf is shown, which also refers to the song line “u me gört dr zwöit 12er cho”. The only photo in the booklet that was also used for tour advertising shows the band at the port of Tunis.

successes

The pre-released single “Fish sinks” reached number 5 in the Swiss single charts for one week. The album reached number 1 on the Swiss album charts and was awarded platinum in 2008. The song Johnny and Mary reached number 44 in the Swiss single charts through downloads alone.

Although the songs are rather heavy and melancholy and therefore not really compatible with radio, the song “Fisch versänke” nevertheless reached number 1 in the radio charts in January 2008 (among Swiss works). and with 4th place for “Johnny & Mary” in March high airplay values.

In February 2009 the album received the Swiss Music Award for Best Album Pop / Rock National .
