The Haubinger of 1857

The Haubinger are the third oldest carnival society in Mainz and an integral part of the Mainz Rose Monday procession during the Mainz Carnival . A special feature is that the Haubinger do not throw candy into the crowd during the Rose Monday procession, as is generally the case, but cheese from Mainz . The first chairman is Uwe Zajonc, the meeting chairman is Helmut Sudrow.

The Mainz Carnival Association Die Haubinger was founded in 1857. According to legend, the founding goes back to a "campaign of revenge" by the wives against their husbands who fell asleep in the inn, who secretly raised "bed caps" for their husbands.

Probably the oldest still existing Mainz carnival corporation flag shows the Haubinger and is kept in the Mainz carnival archive.
