The Haubitzer See , like the neighboring Hainer See and Kahnsdorfer See, emerged from the "Witznitz II" open-cast lignite mine and is part of the Leipziger Neuseenland . It is located north of Borna and south of Leipzig in the Neukieritzsch municipality and reached its final water level in 2006.
