Haukeliseter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Haukeliseter is a hotel located on the Norwegian road link Haukelivegen in Fylke Vestfold og Telemark .

history

In 1867, the Norwegian Parliament ( Storting ) decided to build a place to stay on the road Haukelivegen, which was under construction, to offer protection to travelers. The Haukelivegen runs in the vicinity of Haukeliseter above the tree line. The travelers were therefore particularly exposed to the weather. The Ulevåbu building, which was erected near Haukeliseter in 1863, was demolished and then rebuilt at Haukeliseter. Travelers who could not afford the cost of the newly built hotel stayed in this building. The building is still in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.

In 1963 the Stavanger Turistforening Association bought Haukeliseter from the Norwegian state and the hotel became a hut of the Norwegian Alpine Association DNT . The main building was renovated and expanded in the years that followed, and additional buildings were erected. Today the hotel offers a range of accommodation options, from mattress dormitories to suites located on the second floor of the tower building from 1890.

General

Haukeliseter is still an important resting place for travelers who are traveling on Haukelivegen from east to west Norway or in the other direction. Haukeliseter is also the starting point for many hiking and skiing routes over the Hardangervidda .
