House Erwitte

Haus Erwitte was built between 1701 and 1703 in the baroque style in Erwitte . Today it houses a hospital.

Originally the headquarters of the Lords of Erwitte stood here , documented since 1188. By marriage, the property later came to the Droste zu Schwenkhausen family, who from then on called themselves Droste zu Erwitte . In 1502 she had a castle-like residence built in Erwitte in the immediate vicinity of Erwitte Castle . A new baroque building was erected at this point between 1701 and 1703. The builder was possibly Nikolaus Wurmstich from Lippstadt.

Haus Erwitte is a large rectangular building with eleven window axes. The central projection alone with an impressive portal comprises three window axes.

The building passed into the possession of the von Hörde family through marriage . The last owner donated the building to the local parish in 1860 with the proviso that a hospital should be built there. Several extensions for the Marienhospital were added to the historic house in the 19th and 20th centuries . Haus Erwitte burned down in 1924 and was rebuilt in 1925, slightly modified.
