Krzysztof Knittel

Krzysztof Knittel (born May 1, 1947 in Warsaw ) is a Polish composer and improvisation musician ( synthesizer , voice ).

Life

Knittel studied sound direction and composition with Tadeusz Baird , Andrzej Dobrowolski and Włodzimierz Kotoński as well as computer music with Lejaren Hiller at the Warsaw Music Academy . From 1973 he worked with the Experimental Studio of the Polish Radio. In 1975 he studied programming at the Mathematical Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences . He also took part in the Darmstadt summer courses in 1974 and 1976 .

He was the co-founder of several ensembles for live electronic and improvisation music : the Grupy Kompozytorskiej KEW with Elżbieta Sikora and Wojciech Michniewski (1973–1976), the Cytula Tyfun da Bamba Orkiester with Andrzej Bieżan , Mieczysław Litwiński , Mieczysław Litwiński (1981) and Tadeusz Studio Muzyki Elektroakustycznej with Stanisław Krupowicz and Paweł Szymański (1982–1984), the group Light from Poland with the poets Tadeusz Sławek , Mieczysław Litwiński and Bogdan Mizerski and the European Improvisation Orchestra (1996–1998). With Marek Chołoniewski and Włodzimierz Kiniorski he founded the trio CH & K & K in 1999 , with Jerzy Kornowicz , Ryszard Latecki and Tadeusz Wielecki the improvisation ensemble Kawalerowie błotni (The Mud Cavaliers) in 2004 , in which he deals with intuitive music .

Knittel gave courses and seminars for new music in Kazimierz Dolny , Munich, Boston, Philadelphia, Barcelona, ​​Alicante, Budapest, Prague and Vitasaari. For his string quartet in honor of the murdered Father Jerzy Popiełuszko he received a prize from the Solidarność trade union in 1985 . From 1995 to 1998 he was director of the Warsaw Autumn Music Festival . In 1998 he received an award from the New York Foundation for Contemporary Performing Arts . Since 2001 he has taught at the Lodz Music Academy and since 2007 he has been a teacher at the Krakow Music Academy .
