Piotr Bikont

Piotr Bikont (born May 12, 1955 in Poznan ; died June 27, 2017 ) was a Polish director , actor , journalist and theater manager .

Life

Bikont studied English from 1973 to 1975 at the University of Warsaw and then worked until 1978 as an assistant at Jerzy Grotowski's Theater Institute . He also published translations of poems by Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti in the journal Puls . From 1978 to 1982 he studied directing at the Film School in Łódź . During this time he worked for the underground edition of Puls and for Solidarność z Gdańskiem . In October 1980 he was a member of the National Founding Committee of the Independent Student Union .

After the introduction of martial law , he was interned from December 13, 1981 to October 1982. In 1983 he became chairman of the Association of Young Polish Filmmakers ( Koło Młodych Stowarzyszenia Filmowców Polskich ). 1984–85 he was vice-president of the art film studio Karol Irzykowski . As a journalist, he worked for the underground magazine Tygodnik Mazowsze from 1983 to 1989 . He then worked for the magazine Gazeta Wyborcza , 2000–01 for Przekrój .

He was married to columnist Anna Bikont , with whom he had two children, and then to actress Mirosława Olbińska.
