Krzysztof Zarębski

Krzysztof Zarębski (born January 22, 1939 in Warsaw ) is a Polish performance artist , painter and sculptor.

From 1962 to 1968, Zarębski studied graphics and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Jan Wodyński and Stefan Gierowski . After graduating, he was active as a painter and from 1971 became one of the pioneers of performance art in Poland. From 1975 he worked on stage projects with the director and author Helmut Kajzar .

After the introduction of martial law in Poland in 1981 , Zarębski emigrated to the United States with his family . Here he met artists with whom he founded the group The Rivington School Artists . In 1989 he took part in Kazimierz Braun's performance of Tadeusz Różewicz's piece Przyrost naturalny .

Zarębski's works can be found in the collections of the Muzeum Narodowe in Warsaw, the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź , the Museum of Modern Art in New York City , the Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej Zamek Ujazdowski in Warsaw and the Malmö konsthall .
