Kitzerstein castle
The Schlösschen Kitzerstein is located near the Hohe Schwarm in Saalfeld / Saale on the city wall in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .
history
The castle was built on the site of two settlement farms. The settler farms belonged to the knight Otto von Enzenberg and the lords of Thüna . In 1497 the abbot Georg von Thüna was appointed imperial prince by the emperor . Thus the monastery also got worldly influence. The Thünas then also exerted influence on the city.
To the castle
It is an irregular, architecturally strongly structured structure. The building sticks to a steep slope of the hall terrace and was polygonally extended to the east over the city wall . The gables are richly decorated and roughly represent the North German construction method. The corner bay window looking into the courtyard is equipped with tracery . The pointed arch portal is the entrance. A former wall tower was included in the construction on the north side. There is still a loopholes there . Seven ornate gables decorate the castle.
Ownership
The owners changed frequently. The Chancellor von Ketelhodt from Rudolstadt lived there before it was transferred to civil ownership in the 19th century. The last private owner was Hans-Joachim Schaede, who was expropriated as a washing machine manufacturer in 1948 .
In 2006 the gardens between Hohem Schwarm and Schlösschen were redesigned. Today the music school is housed there.
