Marek Chołoniewski (born October 23, 1953 in Kraków ) is a Polish composer, music organizer and music teacher.

Life

Chołoniewski studied organ with Leszek Werner , composition with Bogusław Schaeffer and electronic music with Józef Patkowski at the Kraków Music Academy, where he has been teaching composition since 1976 and has been head of the electroacoustic music studio since 2000.

He is the founder or co-founder of groups such as Pociąg Towarowy , Studio MCH , Studio Ch & K (with Krzysztof Knittel ), CH & K & K (with Knittel and Włodzimierz Kiniorski ), the duos mc2 (with Marcel Chyrzyński ) and Double Mark ( with Mark Polishook ), the Infinity Quartet (with Keir Neuringer , Ryan Zawel , and Rafał Mazur ), Natural Plastic (with Amy Knoles ), and the Kinetic Trio (with Kiniorski and Mazur). In 1977 he founded the Muzyka Center, which by 2013 alone premiered 560 works by Polish and foreign composers in almost 750 concerts.

As founder, artistic director or coordinator, he is involved in numerous international art projects, such as the Audio Art (1987) and Audio Art Festival (1993) series of events , the International Workshop for Contemporary Music Kraków / Stuttgart (with Matthias Hermann , 1993), the International Academy for New Composition and Audio Art in Tyrol (with Marianne Penz-van Stappershoef , 1993–99), Silent Films with Live Music (1994), GlobalMix (1998), Art Boat (2000), GPS-Art (2000), Ensemble Spiel (with Stephan Meier ) and Musik für heute (Hannover, 2003), Polish Sound Art in China, Chinese Sound Art in Poland, Polish Sound Art in Tibet (with Dickson Dee and Zenial , 2006–2008), PAFME (with Benjamin Boretz and Dorota Czerner , 2006), the European Course for Musical Composition and Technologies (with the IRCAM , 2006–2008), and the Polish Culture Days in Luxembourg (with Marcin Wierzbicki , 2008).

Chołoniewski composed instrumental and electroacoustic music for radio, television and film, created sound and video installations as well as audiovisual and network projects.
