Marcel Chyrzyński

Marcel Chyrzyński (born November 26, 1971 in Częstochowa ) is a Polish composer and musician.

Chyrzyński studied composition with Marek Stachowski (graduated with distinction in 1995), instrumentation with Krzysztof Penderecki and electronic music with Marek Chołoniewski at the Kraków Music Academy . As a Fulbright Scholar , he continued his education with Richard Boulanger , Cindy McTee and Rodney Oaks . From 1994 he was a lecturer at the Krakow Music Academy. After his habilitation, he became a professor at the Faculty of Composition, Interpretation and Music Education at the Academy in 2010, and has been the director of the Institute for Composition, Conducting and Music Theory since 2014.

For his compositions, Chyrzyński received first prizes at the Andrzej Krzanowski competition for young composers in 1988 and 1990, at the Adam Didur composition competition in 1994 and at the Tadeusz Baird festival for young composers in 1997, as well as two third prizes in the competitions for sacred music composition in 1996 and 1997 He attended the International Academy for New Composition in Schwaz (1994), the XV Summer Composition Courses in Białystok (1995), the 3rd International Workshop for New Music and Computers in Stuttgart (1995) and the 4th Contemporary Music Workshops Krakow and Stuttgart (1996) and the Summer Composition Courses in Radziejowice (1996, 1997), where he his musical training with masters such as Paul Paterson , Sylvano Bussotti , Claude Lefebvre , Joji Yuasa , Boguslaw Schaeffer , Lidia Zielińska and Hanna Kulenty perfected .

Chyrzyński composed orchestral and chamber music, choral works, electroacoustic and electronic music, as well as drama music (including Słowa Boże ( Divinas Palabras ) by Ramón del Valle-Inclán , Pan Paweł ( Mr Paul ) by Tankred Dorst , Zabawa (The Party) by Sławomir Mrożek , Phaedra's Love by Sarah Kane , Legoland by Dirk Dobbrow , Tatuaż ( tattoo ) by Dea Loher , Wścieklizna Show (rabbit show ) and Pokolenie porno (Generation Porno) by Paweł Jurek and Testosterone by Andrzej Saramonowicz ). His works are performed worldwide in concerts and festivals. He has been a member of the Polish Composers' Union since 1995 and of the Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music since 2005.
