Marek Stachowski

Marek Stachowski (born March 21, 1936 in Piekary Śląskie , † December 3, 2004 in Krakow ) was a Polish composer . From 1993 to 1999 and from 2002 to 2004 he was rector of the Cracow Academy of Music .

biography

Born three years before the outbreak of World War II , his family had to hide from the Nazis. 1952 began his musical training at the State Music Primary School with Stanisław Czerny (piano). In 1962 he married Maria Jabłońska. From 1963 to 1968 he studied with Krzysztof Penderecki at the Krakow Music Academy (then Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Muzyczna , State Music Academy). From 1967 on, he had a composition class at his alma mater . Many of his pupils and students are sustainably active in the Polish music scene. A. Wojciech Widłak , Maciej Jabłoński , Kazimierz Pyzik or Jacek Wiktor Ajdinović .

The Kraków Music Academy is cherishing his memory post mortem with the annual Marek Stachowski Composition Competition (first held in 2008) and has renamed its chamber music hall the Marek Stachowski Hall. In addition, the Stowarzyszenie Artystów Polskich (Society of Polish Artists) is trying to get an honor from the city of Krakow in the form of a street renaming.
