Claude Lefebvre (composer)

Claude Lefebvre (born November 11, 1931 in Ardres in the Pas-de-Calais department ; † May 2, 2012 ) was a French composer and poet.

Life

Lefebvre studied composition with Darius Milhaud at the Conservatoire de Paris and then with Pierre Boulez at the Music Academy of the City of Basel . In 1966 he became professor of analysis and composition at the Conservatory in Metz and also taught at the University of Metz .

He was the initiator and artistic director of the Metzer Center européen pour la recherche musicale, founded in 1972, and director of the Rencontres européennes de musique contemporaine festival in Metz.

In 1980 he received the Grand prix de la SACEM for chamber music and in 1985 he was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres . Lefebvre was married and had two daughters.
