Krzysztof Bąkowski

Krzysztof Bąkowski (born November 28, 1961 in Warsaw ) is a Polish violinist .

The son of the concertmaster of the Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Narodowej , Zenon Bąkowski , studied at the Music Academy in Warsaw until 1983 and from 1984 to 1986 at the Indiana University Bloomington violin with Tadeusz Wroński and Josef Gingold as well as chamber music, contemporary music and conducting. In 1990 he won first prize in the Tadeusz Wroński violin competition in Warsaw.

Since the premiere of Hanna Kulenty's Martwa natura ze skrzypcami in 1985, he has been a specialist in the interpretation of contemporary music. In addition to world premieres of compositions Tadeusz Wieleckis , Jerzy Kornowiczs , Zygmunt Krauze , Aleksander Lasońs , Paweł Szymanski , Andrzej Dziadek , Andrzej Dutkiewiczs and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki he played works by Arvo Pärt , Conlon Nancarrow , Michael Finnissy and Arne Nordheim in Polish premiere.

Bąkowski took part in New Music festivals in Warsaw ( Warsaw Autumn ), Wroclaw, Krakow, Duszniki, Katowice, Łańcut, Posen, Danzig, Louisville, Rotterdam, Lerchen, Odense, Minsk, Puebla, Arnhem, Apeldoorn and Berlin and performed with major Polish artists Orchestras under the direction of conductors such as Antoni Wit , Jerzy Maksymiuk and Jacek Kaspszyk . He made more than 50 radio recordings, including the violin concertos by Roman Palester and Grażyna Bacewicz , and recorded a. a. Hanna Kulenta's violin concerto and Witold Lutosławski's composition Łańcuch II for violin and orchestra on CD. For the album Rzeczpospolita he was awarded the Diapason d'or in 1996. He played the Concerto festivo by Aleksander Lasoń and the Koncerto à rebours by Tadeusz Wielecki at the Tribune internationale des compositeurs of UNESCO in Paris in 1997 and 1999 respectively. Bąkowski is concertmaster of the Warsaw National Philharmonic and Professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music .
