Andrzej Dutkiewicz

Andrzej Dutkiewicz (born September 30, 1942 in Staszów ) is a Polish composer, pianist and music teacher.

Dutkiewicz studied piano with Jerzy Lefeld and Regina Smendzianka (diploma 1968) and composition with Witold Rudziński (diploma 1972) at the Warsaw State Music Academy . As a Fulbright Scholar , he continued his studies with Samuel Adler and Wayne Barlow (composition) and Eugene List (piano) at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, where he received his doctorate. In 1972 he took part in the Darmstadt Summer Courses , 1974–1975 in the Eastman Courses .

From 1976 to 1997 he led courses in the interpretation of contemporary music at the International Music Camp Interlochen and at the University of La Paz, as well as 1988-2000 in Seoul and Daego. As a visiting professor, he lectured at more than 50 American universities. At the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy he was a full professor and headed the interfaculty studies for the interpretation of contemporary music from 1993 to 1999, was dean of the department for piano, harpsichord and organ from 1999 to 2005 and then head of the interfaculty studies for new music. Since 1999 he has also been the deputy director of the Polish-Korean educational project between the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy and Keimyung University in South Korea.

Dutkiewicz is the founder and director of the ensemble for new music Grupa XX , with which he has performed almost all over Europe, Asia, North and South America. In 1970 he received first prize at the International Competition for Performers of Contemporary Music in Rotterdam. In the following years he recorded compositions by Witold Lutosławskis and Karol Szymanowskis for the Polish label Polskie Nagrania, and from 1997–1999 he recorded his own compositions ( Dutkiewicz plays Dutkiewicz ; Polska Muzyka Współczesna , Panorama Nowej Muzyki Polskiej ).

His compositions have been performed in New York's Carnegie Hall and at festivals such as the Blossom Music Festival , the American Liszt Society Festival , the Dresden Neustadt Art Festival , the Warsaw Autumn and the Berlin Festival . In 2002 he received the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland , and in 2008 the Gold Medal of the Order of Merit of Keimyung University.
