Jerzy Kornowicz

Jerzy Kornowicz (born August 12, 1959 in Lublin ) is a Polish composer and improvisation musician (piano, synthesizer).

Kornowicz studied at the University of Music in Warsaw with Tadeusz Baird and Marian Borkowski and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Louis Andriessen . From 1988 to 1990 he was chairman of the Youth Union of the Polish Composers Union, from 1989 to 1992 and from 2002 to 2007 a member of the board of the Polish Society for New Music. Since 2003 he has been President of the Polish Composers Union. He has taught at Maria Curie Skłodowska University and as a guest at other Polish and foreign universities. In the improvisation ensemble The Mud Cavaliers he deals with intuitive music .

Kornowicz composed music for theater, film and radio. He has received composition commissions for festivals such as the Warsaw Autumn , the Polish Radio, the De Ereprijs Orchestra , the Joachim Quartet and the Prague Philharmonic . His works belonged to the repertoire of musicians such as Elżbieta Chojnacka , Jerzy Maksymiuk and Krzysztof Bąkowski and of well-known Polish orchestras and were at festivals such as the Warsaw Autumn, the BBC Broadcasting Festival, in Middelburg, Cheltenham, Paris, Lille, Bucharest, Minsk, Kiev and Tokyo listed. In 2005 he received the Gloria Artis medal , and in 2008 the ZAiKS Authors' Association Prize for his services and the promotion of Polish music.
