Jerzy Maksymiuk
Jerzy Jan Maksymiuk (born April 9, 1936 in Grodno ) is a Polish conductor and film composer.
He studied composition with Piotr Perkowski until 1962, piano with Jerzy Lefeld until 1964 and conducting with Bogusław Madey until 1969 at the State Music Academy in Warsaw . 1970–1972 he was conductor at the Warsaw Opera Theater , from 1972 head of the group of musicians of the Warsaw Chamber Opera , Renamed the Polish Chamber Orchestra in 1973 and Sinfonia Varsovia in 1984 .
From 1973 he was with the Great Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio , in 1981 on tour with the Polish Chamber Orchestra in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Germany, and from 1983 to 1993 director of the Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Glasgow . In 1991 he performed Mozart's “ Don Giovanni ” and in 1993 Johann Strauss' “ Fledermaus ” at the English National Opera .
Jerzy Maksymiuk was a member of the Schedule Commission of the Warsaw Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music . He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in 1990 and the title of Conductor Laureate BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in 1993 .
