Cory Murphy (born February 13, 1978 in Kanata , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with Karlskrona HK in the Svenska Hockeyligan .

Career

Cory Murphy began his career as a hockey player on the Colgate University team , for which he was active from 1997 to 2001. Then the Canadian moved to the SM-liiga , the top Finnish league, where he played for two seasons each for the Espoo Blues and Ilves Tampere . After a year-long engagement in the Swiss National League A at Friborg-Gottéron , Murphy returned to Finland in 2006, where he played for HIFK Helsinki the following year . There he was named best defender , best player of the main round and best player of the entire season in the 2006/07 season , after which the defender, who had never been drafted before, was signed by the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League .

In the 2007-08 season - his first season in the NHL - Murphy scored 17 scorer points, including two goals, in 47 games for the Panthers, who handed him over to the Tampa Bay Lightning over the course of the following season . Murphy came on 25 appearances for the Lightning, scored five goals and scored 15 points. On July 17, 2009, he signed a contract with the New Jersey Devils . In the following season he played mainly with the farm team Lowell Devils in the American Hockey League and also came to twelve games for the New Jersey Devils in the NHL. After the 2009/10 season, Murphy decided to continue his career in Switzerland with the ZSC Lions , where he signed a two-year contract on June 4, 2010.

In the 2012/13 season he was under contract with HK Dinamo Minsk before he was signed in May 2013 by the Växjö Lakers from the Svenska Hockeyligan .

For Canada , Murphy took part in the A World Cup in 2007 , where he was world champion with his team.
