Bartosz Kowalski-Banasewicz

Bartosz Kowalski-Banasewicz (pseudonym: Bartmuz ; born March 7, 1977 in Warsaw ) is a Polish composer.

Kowalski learned music at the State Music High School in Warsaw with Sławomir Czarnecki and studied at the Warsaw Music Academy with Marian Borkowski . This was followed by postgraduate studies in the subjects of film and computer music and audiovisual art at the Lódź Music Academy with Krzesimir Dębski , Zygmunt Konieczny , Krzysztof Knittel , Maciej Zieliński and Włodek Pawlik, and attended workshops by Matias Hermans and Marek Chołoniewskis in Stuttgart. In 2010 he received his PhD in music and began teaching as an assistant professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music .

Among the approximately one hundred compositions by Kowalski, there are chamber music as well as a considerable number of symphonic and choral works as well as film music. He has won several prizes at the Musica Sacra composers' competition (1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2012), and has also received prizes at the Thadeusz-Baird and Kazimierz-Serocki competitions. In 1997 and 2006 he was a scholarship holder of the Polish Ministry of Culture, in 2005 of the ZAiKS and in the season 2012–13 composer in residence of the Filharmonia Świętokrzyska in Kielce.
